Summerville's £50m Move to Man Utd Depends on Rashford Exit, Says Romano

Manchester United's bid to land West Ham winger Crysencio Summerville could be scuppered if Marcus Rashford remains at Old Trafford, according to transfer analyst Fabrizio Romano.
The Red Devils have opened preliminary dialogue with the Hammers regarding a potential £50m swoop for the Dutch winger, with journalist Ben Jacobs reporting direct club-to-club contact has commenced. However, Romano has poured cold water on suggestions that formal negotiations are already underway.
"Man Utd are not in active talks now with Crysencio Summerville," Romano stated on his YouTube channel. "He's a player under consideration, but negotiations, club-to-club or with agents of the player have not started as of now."
The core issue, Romano explained, revolves around Rashford's status. "Because, as of today, Rashford is at Manchester United, and if Rashford doesn't leave, of course, the situation of Crysencio Summerville could be more complicated," the transfer specialist added.
United's primary focus this summer has centred on midfield reinforcement, with a deal for Atalanta's Ederson already in place. The club has previously missed out on targets Elliot Anderson and Mateus Fernandes whilst attempting to avoid inflated fees. Beyond midfielders, a left-back and left-winger remain high on the agenda, whilst a centre-back or striker would only materialise further down the pecking order.
Rashford, however, appears to be softening his stance on remaining at United. Romano revealed that the England star has been transmitting "positive messages" to the club about staying put, following a constructive meeting between his representatives and United officials two days prior.
"Rashford is not closing doors to the possibility of restarting with United, to be part of the preseason under Michael Carrick," Romano explained. "The message was sent directly; agents of the player and a Man United meeting took place two days ago, and it was a positive meeting."
With eight weeks remaining in the transfer window, Romano cautioned against any certainties. "The window is still very long—eight weeks—so we can't guarantee that Rashford is 100% staying at United," he noted. "Then, if a good proposal for Rashford and for United arrives, Rashford could still leave the club in the summer transfer window. If he doesn't, maybe United could find one more player to use. So, United have a wildcard in Rashford, waiting to see what's going to happen on the market."
