The Gunners are stepping up their pursuit of Julian Alvarez as summer recruitment gathers pace, with fresh optimism surrounding a potential deal for the Atletico Madrid forward.

Arsenal have made just one permanent addition so far this window, securing Piero Hincapie from Bayer Leverkusen for approximately £40m. The club's search continues for reinforcements in midfield, left wing, and attack, with disruption caused by the World Cup affecting their planning.

While Alvarez has long been linked with a move to north London, alongside Bruno Guimaraes and Bradley Barcola, the prospect appeared distant until now. However, Miguel Delaney's reporting suggests momentum is building. The Argentine international remains open to joining Arsenal despite harbouring preferences for Real Madrid or Barcelona—destinations Atletico have resisted selling to. PSG's interest has cooled due to reluctance to part with Barcola.

The Gunners are now moving swiftly to complete a deal before pre-season, with reduced competition working in their favour. One complication remains the valuation gap: Arsenal have historically resisted going above £90m, whereas Atletico demand north of £100m. The negotiations carry added intrigue given that Arsenal's sporting director Andrea Berta is conducting talks with his former employer.

Arsenal retain hope of capturing Morgan Rogers too, though the World Cup scheduling has prolonged what was already a lengthy pursuit.

On the midfield front, Newcastle have signalled they will accept an £80m bid for Guimaraes. Finance expert Stefan Borson suggests Arsenal may need to stretch beyond their current proposal, noting that while the midfielder's age—approaching 29—naturally caps his value, an £80m fee represents the realistic sweet spot for a sale. Borson indicated that £60m falls short of Newcastle's asking price, with the realistic range sitting between £75m and £80m. He added that Newcastle should ideally explore keeping the Brazilian midfielder at St James' Park.
