Ederson Ready to Back United Move as Red Devils Weigh £40m Atalanta Swoop

Manchester United appear to have landed a significant boost in their pursuit of Atalanta midfielder Ederson, with the Brazilian reportedly prepared to accept a move to Old Trafford this summer.

The 24-year-old has been on United's radar for some time, and the Red Devils are actively considering a £40m transfer as they look to bolster their midfield options ahead of next season. The club face the prospect of replacing Casemiro, and potentially Manuel Ugarte as well, leaving Erik ten Hag's side in the market for at least two new midfielders.

Arsenal have also been credited with interest in the Bergamo star, but United appear well-positioned to win the race. Atletico Madrid were once considered frontrunners, though the Spanish side have opted to pursue Wolves' Joao Gomes instead, clearing a path for their Premier League rivals.

According to reports, Ederson has been swayed by United's offer of around £100,000 weekly wages and is prepared to give the green light once the club make their move official. That move hinges on two critical factors: securing an agreement on personal terms—which appears largely settled—and crucially, meeting Atalanta's asking price.

The Serie A outfit are demanding €45 million (£38.9m), though the final fee could stretch to €60 million when add-ons are factored in. United's previous dealings with Atalanta, having successfully recruited Rasmus Hojlund and Amad Diallo from the club, have established a solid working relationship that could smooth negotiations.

United's recruitment team have been aware of Atalanta's valuation and are considering their options, confident in their ability to structure a package acceptable to all parties.

However, transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has urged caution, revealing that while United have maintained conversations with Ederson's representatives, no final decision has been made. The midfielder remains one of several candidates on the club's shortlist rather than their sole target, with the deal still very much in the exploratory phase.

"The conversations are active between United and the agents," Romano explained, emphasising that United are exploring multiple avenues in their midfield recruitment drive this summer.
