Xabi Alonso has wasted no time mapping out his summer recruitment strategy at Chelsea, with the newly appointed manager already zeroing in on three priority signings to reshape the Stamford Bridge squad.

The Spanish tactician officially takes the helm on July 1 after penning a four-year contract, with Chelsea confirming his arrival on Sunday. Having previously cut his managerial teeth at Real Madrid and Bayer Leverkusen—where he delivered the German club's maiden Bundesliga crown—Alonso arrives with considerable pedigree and ambition.

In his first statement as Chelsea boss, Alonso outlined his vision: "Chelsea is one of the biggest clubs in world football and it fills me with immense pride to become manager of this great club. From my conversations with the ownership group and sporting leadership, it is clear we share the same ambition. We want to build a team capable of competing consistently at the highest level and fighting for trophies. There is great talent in the squad and huge potential at this football club and it will be my great honour to lead it. Now the focus is on hard work, building the right culture and winning trophies."

Chelsea's hierarchy issued their own statement, noting: "One of the most respected figures in the modern game, Alonso arrives at Chelsea having already experienced coaching at the highest level of European football with Real Madrid and Bayer Leverkusen, where he led the German club to the first league title in their history."

According to reports, Alonso has already compiled his shopping list, with a premium striker topping the agenda. Galatasaray sensation Victor Osimhen stands as Chelsea's primary target—a move that would signal intent in the transfer market. The Nigerian marksman would inject the kind of directness and physicality the Blues have lacked, bringing "chaos, aggression, penalty-box movement and guaranteed fear factor" to proceedings. Landing a striker of such calibre would constitute "a huge statement" of intent, particularly given Alonso's desire to transform Chelsea into genuine title contenders once more.

Beyond the forward line, the manager is keen to bolster his goalkeeping options, with AC Milan's Mike Maignan emerging as a leading candidate. The Frenchman would provide the experience and quality required at the highest level.

Completing the trio is Sporting CP centre-back Ousmane Diomande, the Ivory Coast international identified as the ideal fit for Alonso's possession-oriented football. His combination of strength, athleticism and composure in possession makes him an attractive prospect for the new regime.

The anticipated arrivals of Maignan and Osimhen would mark a notable departure from Chelsea's recent transfer philosophy of prioritising youth, instead emphasising the experience required to mount a serious title challenge.
