Liverpool's Summer Recruitment Drive: A Dozen Wide Men on Slot's Radar

Arne Slot's position at Anfield appears secure, with the club's decision-makers convinced the Dutchman deserves another season to prove his worth following what they've identified as a necessary attacking refresh.

The Reds are preparing for substantial outgoings this summer. Mohamed Salah is set to depart on a free transfer, whilst Federico Chiesa looks destined to return to Italian football. Cody Gakpo's future has also come under scrutiny, with the club apparently open to his departure. Harvey Elliott, meanwhile, is unlikely to be reintegrated following a difficult loan spell at Aston Villa, and with Hugo Ekitike unavailable until 2027 due to a ruptured Achilles, the need for multiple attacking additions has become pressing.

RB Leipzig's Yan Diomande remains Liverpool's primary target, but the club is casting a wide net across Europe's top leagues.

The Premier League Contingent

Of the 12 wide forwards under consideration, six currently operate in England's top flight. Bournemouth's Rayan, Mohammed Kudus at Tottenham, Newcastle's Anthony Gordon, Brighton's Yankuba Minteh, and West Ham pair Jarrod Bowen and Crysencio Summerville all feature on the list.

The availability of several hinges on their clubs' league status. Should Spurs drop down, Kudus would likely become obtainable. Similarly, Bowen and Summerville's departures from the Hammers would be far more straightforward if West Ham find themselves in the Championship next term.

Gordon has attracted attention from Barcelona and Bayern Munich as well, though Bayern have seemingly shifted their focus away from Diomande and towards the Englishman instead.

Rayan: The Bournemouth Prospect

The Brazilian arrived at the Vitality Stadium in January and has already made a compelling case for himself. Operating across both flanks but most naturally from the right, Rayan has demonstrated his capacity to drive forward with pace and power whilst possessing the physical attributes needed for English football's demands. His five goals and two assists in 13 appearances represent a solid return for a player still settling in.

Extracting him from Bournemouth will prove challenging, however. The club inserted a €100million release clause into his five-and-a-half-year contract when signing him last winter. Beyond the financial hurdle lies the question of adaptation—whether he can maintain his early form as his English football education progresses.

Minteh and the Slot Connection

Yankuba Minteh presents an interesting option, particularly given Slot's previous experience with the winger during his time at Feyenoord. Minteh's loan spell in the Eredivisie preceded his move to Brighton from Newcastle, where he impressed enough to secure a permanent switch.

The Brighton man operates across both flanks but prefers the right—precisely where Slot deployed him previously. His pace and ball-carrying ability are evident, though his decision-making and defensive contribution require further development. His three goals and four assists across 32 Premier League appearances this season suggest he remains a work in progress, albeit one who could represent better value than some alternatives.

The Continental Options

Beyond the Premier League, Liverpool's scouting has identified Kenan Yildiz at Juventus, Michael Olise at Bayern Munich, Bradley Barcola from PSG, Real Madrid's Rodrygo, and fellow RB Leipzig prospect Antonio Nusa as worthy of pursuit.

With Slot's future apparently settled and significant resources earmarked for the summer window, Liverpool appear determined to construct a genuinely competitive attacking unit for the campaign ahead.
