Denzel Dumfries finds himself firmly on Liverpool's radar heading into the summer transfer window, with the Inter Milan right-back's representatives working overtime to engineer a move to Anfield.

The Dutchman's camp has made clear to Liverpool that he is both available and eager to test himself in the Premier League, with a £20million fee mooted for his departure from San Siro.

Arne Slot's search for defensive reinforcements stems from a problematic season on the injury front. Of Liverpool's three established right-backs, Jeremie Frimpong and Conor Bradley have both struggled with fitness issues, whilst Calvin Ramsay has managed just four appearances in a Liverpool shirt since his arrival.

Dumfries, who has been an Inter stalwart since 2021, represents an experienced option who would require minimal settling-in time. His athleticism, attacking prowess and proven ability to thrive in demanding tactical systems all appeal to Liverpool's recruitment thinking. The 27-year-old is regarded as someone capable of stepping straight into Premier League demands without requiring an extended adaptation period.

The interest is hardly one-sided. Arsenal and Manchester City are also monitoring developments, though Liverpool appear to be leading the charge. The club attempted to bring him in during January, a move scuppered by injury concerns and Inter's refusal to entertain loan proposals.

The situation has shifted for the summer, with Dumfries' release clause providing a clear pathway for suitors. Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano outlined the scenario in April, noting that the clause operates within a restricted window and remains active heading into the off-season.

"Denzel Dumfries is a hot topic for the summer, an issue that we need to keep monitoring," Romano explained. "He has a release clause active in the summer, so that opens up the market potential."

Romano added: "One team to keep an eye on Denzel Dumfries remains Liverpool. Liverpool already wanted him during the January transfer window. It wasn't possible, partly because Dumfries was injured."

The transfer guru went on to suggest that whilst Slot rates Dumfries highly, whether the Reds make him a priority target remains uncertain. "Let's see whether this summer Liverpool go back in for Dumfries. He's certainly a player highly rated by the manager, Arne Slot. There's a very good feeling there, but it remains to be seen whether Liverpool will choose Dumfries as their main priority target or not."

Dumfries' pedigree at Inter is beyond question. The Netherlands international has collected two Serie A titles and three Coppa Italia trophies during his time in Italy, whilst also reaching Champions League finals in both 2023 and 2025.
