Liverpool's flanks are facing a summer spring clean, and the wheels are already in motion. After months of speculation, the club has given Cody Gakpo the nod to leave, clearing space for fresh attacking arrivals at Anfield.

The 27-year-old Dutchman has endured a torrid campaign, failing to make an impact on the left wing despite regular selection ahead of promising teenager Rio Ngumoha. His struggles have been compounded by a lack of chemistry with Milos Kerkez down the flank, leaving supporters increasingly frustrated with his performances. The decision to move him on represents a significant shift in approach for manager Arne Slot.

Gakpo's departure is particularly significant given his wages. The winger is among Liverpool's top earners at around £250,000 per week—a salary handed to him just last August when he signed fresh terms. That lucrative deal now looks unlikely to see out its full term.

The broader picture at Liverpool suggests wholesale changes are coming. Mohamed Salah is heading for the exit as a free agent despite having a year left on his contract, while Federico Chiesa appears destined to return to Italy after failing to justify the minutes Slot has offered him.

The headline signing will be Monaco's Yan Diomande, valued at €100m, but Liverpool are keen to add a second winger to their ranks. That's where Maghnes Akliouche enters the frame.

The French international, who has earned seven caps, operates primarily on the right flank despite being left-footed. His season at Monaco has been impressive, delivering seven goals and 11 assists across 42 appearances. Tottenham previously tried to lure him to north London, only for the 22-year-old to reject their advances.

Liverpool believe they can succeed where Spurs failed. According to reports, a summer switch to Merseyside is now viewed as almost certain. Monaco's initial asking price sits around €70m, but Liverpool reckon they can do better. The Reds are preparing an opening bid in the region of €50m, hoping to negotiate a more favourable deal.

Other names have circulated—Bradley Barcola, Anthony Gordon, and Jarrod Bowen have all been mentioned—but Akliouche appears to be the leading target as Liverpool reshape their attacking arsenal for the campaign ahead.
