United Eye Milan's Pavlovic Amid Zirkzee's Toffees Exit Talk

Manchester United are plotting a summer swoop for AC Milan's Strahinja Pavlovic, with the Red Devils reportedly positioned ahead of Chelsea in the race for the Serbian defender's signature.
The 24-year-old has caught the eye during his time in Serie A since arriving from Red Bull Salzburg for £15m in 2024. This season, he has chipped in with five goals across 32 league appearances, demonstrating the kind of all-round defensive contribution that has earned him admirers across Europe.
With Champions League football secured, United's focus will shift towards resolving their managerial setup and reinforcing the squad for their European return. Sources suggest the club are eyeing at least five new additions before the campaign kicks off, with a midfield overhaul taking priority—though defensive reinforcement remains on the agenda. According to Italian publication Gazzetta dello Sport, Pavlovic sits among the centre-back options being considered.
While Chelsea have registered their interest, United are understood to be leading the pursuit and currently hold pole position in negotiations.
On the outgoing front, Joshua Zirkzee appears increasingly likely to depart Old Trafford before pre-season. The Dutch forward has tumbled down the pecking order following the arrivals of Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo, and Matheus Cunha, and has failed to make a meaningful impact when afforded opportunities.
According to Football Insider and former Premier League chief scout Mick Brown, an Everton switch represents a genuine possibility for Zirkzee this summer.
"A move to Everton is a real possibility for Zirkzee," Brown explained. "Whatever criticism you might level at his United spell, he grafts, he gives everything and you cannot fault his effort or commitment.
"It simply hasn't been sufficient at Old Trafford where he's competing against the calibre of Sesko and Mbeumo, but that's a different proposition at Everton. He suits David Moyes down to the ground—he works hard, he's capable of holding possession and bringing others into play, and he'll make runs in behind.
"It's a scenario that benefits everyone involved. Zirkzee gets regular football, Everton land a new striker, and United recoup funds."
