Fenerbahce Close to Sealing Mason Greenwood Deal as Man Utd Eye Fresh Windfall

Manchester United stand to pocket a considerable sum as Mason Greenwood edges closer to Turkish football, with Fenerbahce rapidly closing in on a deal for the English forward.

Greenwood's journey away from Old Trafford began in the summer of 2023 when the club deemed it prudent to move him on following serious criminal charges. Though the Crown Prosecution Service later discontinued proceedings after key witnesses withdrew, United made the calculated decision that his return would prove commercially catastrophic.

The 24-year-old subsequently rebuilt his reputation in France, first on loan at Getafe before securing a permanent switch to Marseille. That move came with a £26m fee attached, but crucially included a 50% sell-on clause that now stands to benefit the Red Devils handsomely.

His Ligue 1 stint has yielded impressive numbers—48 goals and 17 assists across 81 appearances over two seasons—yet tensions with the French club's hierarchy have prompted their willingness to cash in this summer.

A move to Serie A initially appeared most likely, but Fenerbahce have now muscled to the front of the queue. According to reporting, the Turkish outfit are rapidly approaching agreement with Marseille, with negotiations focused on meeting the French side's valuation.

Marseille's asking price sits between €50-55 million, with Fenerbahce's previous €30m offer having fallen short. The club have now tabled what's been described as a substantial fresh bid, while offering Greenwood an €8m annual salary plus bonuses on a long-term contract.

Should a deal land at the top end of that range—around €55m (£47m)—United would recoup approximately £23.5m through their sell-on clause, representing a meaningful financial boost from a player who left the club under decidedly difficult circumstances.
