Carrick's Resurrection Complete: Man Utd Set to Confirm Interim Boss as Permanent Manager

Michael Carrick's interim spell at Manchester United looks set to become a permanent arrangement, with the club hierarchy seemingly ready to hand the club legend the top job on a full-time basis.
Since taking over from Ruben Amorim, Carrick has orchestrated a remarkable resurgence at Old Trafford. The Red Devils have claimed ten victories from their last 15 outings, catapulting themselves up the Premier League standings and securing Champions League football with matches still remaining in the campaign. Along the way, they've posted scalp-taking wins over Arsenal, Manchester City, Liverpool, Aston Villa and Chelsea—hardly the record of a side in freefall.
That run of form has shifted the narrative entirely. What began as a temporary holding operation until summer has evolved into something far more substantial, with INEOS now seriously contemplating making Carrick's appointment permanent. The departure of Thomas Tuchel to England and Carlo Ancelotti's commitment to Brazil have also opened up the landscape considerably.
Andoni Iraola had been touted as a leading contender, particularly with the Bournemouth manager heading towards free agency and linked with both Chelsea and the Old Trafford hot seat. However, fresh reporting suggests those particular doors have now closed. The 43-year-old Spanish tactician is understood to be completely out of the running, leaving him free to pursue opportunities elsewhere—most notably the vacancies at Crystal Palace and Chelsea.
Carrick, at 44, has apparently done enough to retain the position he's held on an interim basis. His steady hand in restoring Champions League qualification appears to have convinced the United hierarchy that continuity rather than upheaval represents the smarter play. An announcement could materialise before the season concludes, with all indications pointing towards his retention.
Sky Sports has reported that formal talks are imminent, with discussions expected to take place before United's final fixture against Brighton on May 24. Carrick's backroom team—Steve Holland, Jonathan Woodgate, Jonny Evans and Travis Binnion—are also expected to receive fresh terms as part of the arrangement.
The narrative has shifted from "who replaces Carrick?" to "when do they announce he's staying?" That's quite the turnaround for a manager who inherited a sinking ship just months ago.
