Spurs Face €80m Asking Price for Como's Baturina After Initial Bid Rebuffed

Tottenham's pursuit of Como's Martin Baturina has hit a financial roadblock, with the Italian outfit demanding a hefty €80m to part with their Croatian talent this summer.
The 23-year-old enjoyed a productive maiden season in Serie A, chipping in with six goals and three assists across 29 appearances for Cesc Fabregas's side. It's a far cry from his days at Dinamo Zagreb, where he made 165 appearances before Como splashed out €22m to bring him to Italy.
Baturina's stock has risen considerably following his performances at the World Cup, where he started all four of Croatia's fixtures as they fell to Portugal 2-1 in the Round of 32. That eye-catching tournament showing has sparked a bidding war, with both Tottenham and Aston Villa circling.
An unnamed Premier League side already tested Como's resolve with a €55m (£47m) offer, only to have their advances firmly rebuffed. The message from the Italians is crystal clear: they want €80m, take it or leave it.
Spurs certainly appear ready to spend big this summer. The North Londoners have already orchestrated a remarkable recruitment drive, bringing in Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi, and Martin Dubravka on free transfers from Liverpool, Bournemouth, and Burnley respectively. Brighton's Jan Paul van Hecke arrived for £52m, whilst West Ham's Mateus Fernandes and Newcastle's Sandro Tonali have also made the switch to Tottenham in deals totalling around £185m.
The spending spree comes on the back of a torrid 2025/26 campaign in which Tottenham narrowly avoided the drop to the Championship. With £100m of fresh capital injected into the club, the Spurs hierarchy are determined to turn their fortunes around.
According to journalist Ben Jacobs, the recruitment drive is far from complete. Speaking on the Market Madness podcast, Jacobs revealed that Tottenham still have their sights set on a left winger and a striker before the transfer window slams shut. "They want a left winger, very possibly a number nine, too, so keep an eye on Tottenham right up until deadline day, because there are more signings to come," he explained.
Whether Baturina will be the one to fill that attacking void remains to be seen—Como's asking price may prove too steep for even Spurs' deep pockets.
