Tottenham have secured Sandro Tonali's signature from Newcastle United, with the Italian midfielder making clear that the North London club was his only realistic option despite interest from elsewhere.

The move represents the sixth fresh face through Tottenham's doors this summer, capping off an increasingly ambitious transfer window for the club. Robertson, Senesi and Dubravka all arrived without a fee, whilst Brighton's Jan Paul van Hecke fetched £52m and West Ham's Mateus Fernandes commanded approximately £85m. Tonali's arrival was officially announced on Monday morning, pending work permit clearance.

The 24-year-old wasted little time expressing his enthusiasm for the project. "When I arrived at the Club today, it felt fantastic," Tonali told Spurs' official channels. "People said about there being four or five clubs – there was only one. I spoke to the Head Coach for close to two hours about the Club, the fans, the stadium and our football. It was like magic because I knew immediately that I had to sign for Tottenham. I've played against Tottenham a few times and always found a great atmosphere made by great fans. I can't wait to start the season."

Sporting director Jonathan Lange hailed the midfielder's pedigree. "Sandro is one of the best midfielders in Europe and we are delighted to welcome him to the Club," Lange said. "He has outstanding technical quality to go with real football intelligence, and has the character to thrive in a demanding, high-pressure environment. Sandro brings valuable experience at the highest level, both domestically and in European competition and I know our supporters will love his energy and commitment on the pitch."

Manager Roberto de Zerbi added his own endorsement, noting the personal connection. "Sandro is a special player and a great signing for our Club. I have followed him for a long time, as he came through the youth system at my hometown club, Brescia, and I'm so happy to be working with him now. Given his qualities, there was a lot of interest in Sandro this summer. However, he was very clear in his desire to join Tottenham, and I know our fans will love what he brings to the team."

Meanwhile, Radu Dragusin looks set to depart the Lilywhites. The Romanian defender is poised to join Serie A's Fiorentina on a temporary basis, with the arrangement including an obligation for the Italian side to make the deal permanent next summer.

According to reports, Fiorentina have struck a loan agreement valued at €1.5 million, with a mandatory purchase clause set at €17.5 million subject to specific conditions. The defender is scheduled to undergo his medical examination on Wednesday to finalise the switch.

Fiorentina sporting director Fabio Paratici, who previously held the same role at Tottenham, played a central part in engineering the agreement. Having attempted to bring Dragusin to Florence during the January window, Paratici successfully negotiated the loan-to-buy structure this time around, capitalising on the strong working relationship established during his time in London. For the Viola, the acquisition addresses a defensive vulnerability, bringing a centre-back with genuine European pedigree to bolster their backline.
