Tottenham Warned Against Selling Djed Spence on the Cheap

Tottenham face a stark warning over Djed Spence's valuation as they weigh up his departure from the club this summer.

Former scout Bryan King has issued a blunt assessment: letting the versatile defender leave for under £50m would be a significant miscalculation. King's reasoning centres on Spence's proven credentials at international level and his age profile as an established England international.

"You wouldn't even start thinking about letting him go for under £50m," King told Football Insider. "We're talking about a young, current England international. It's a situation where Tottenham would be stupid to let him go."

The defender has impressed during England's World Cup campaign, notably putting in a strong shift at left-back during the quarter-final against Norway. His flexibility across both flanks has proven valuable for the national team, though his club prospects have taken a turn following the arrival of Andy Robertson.

With Destiny Udogie already established in the squad, Spence finds himself squeezed out at Tottenham. New manager Roberto De Zerbi has reportedly informed him he's surplus to requirements, clearing the path for his exit.

Recent valuations have pegged the defender at around £40m, but King dismisses this as insufficient given the current market rates for young England players.

The race for his signature is heating up, with Inter Milan having initiated formal discussions with Spence's representatives. The Italian club's early move puts them in a commanding position, though Spence's openness to the switch reflects his understanding that Tottenham no longer require his services.

However, Inter face competition from several quarters. Everton have demonstrated concrete interest, while Newcastle and Liverpool are monitoring developments as potential alternatives. The speed at which Inter can conclude negotiations may prove decisive, particularly if any of the English clubs decide to firm up their pursuit.
