Van Dijk Eyes Galatasaray Exit as Liverpool Face Summer Exodus

The Anfield departure lounge appears to be filling up, with Virgil van Dijk now reportedly ready to join the exodus heading for the exit. Turkish media outlets have claimed the Liverpool stalwart intends to leave the Premier League club this summer and join Galatasaray.
Van Dijk remains contracted to Liverpool through the summer of 2027 following his new deal agreed in April 2025, and has been a cornerstone of Arne Slot's defensive setup. Yet according to Fotomac, the Dutch international is "planning to leave Liverpool" and has emerged as a leading target for Turkish Super Lig champions Galatasaray. The reports even suggest he is "considering terminating his contract" at Anfield.
The Turkish transfer rumour mill has been working overtime. A Spor previously outlined an ambitious Galatasaray plan to land both Van Dijk and Mohamed Salah from Liverpool this window. Haber Sarikimizi has now added fuel to the fire, with Galatasaray reporter Arda Ozkurt providing specifics on the defender's position.
"Someone from Virgil van Dijk's management agency was at Rams Park for the championship match," Ozkurt stated. "Virgil van Dijk has indicated that he is willing to leave for Galatasaray on a free transfer, but Liverpool's stance will be decisive. Virgil van Dijk wants a 3-year contract with Galatasaray, consisting of 2+1 years (with a 1-year extension if he plays a certain number of matches)."
The prospect of Van Dijk departing would represent a seismic shift at Anfield. Salah has already confirmed his summer exit, whilst Andy Robertson will also depart when his contract expires. Alisson faces the possibility of a switch to Juventus. Three Liverpool legends potentially heading for the door—and now the captain of the defence might join them.
It's a scenario that strains credibility. Fenway Sports Group would surely balk at dismantling the defensive heart of their operation alongside losing Salah and Robertson. Van Dijk himself seems an unlikely candidate to depart on poor terms after establishing himself as a Liverpool institution.
Reinforcements are on the horizon: Giovanni Leoni and Jeremy Jacquet are expected to feature prominently next season, whilst Ibrahima Konate appears set to remain. Yet there remains a gulf between promising youngsters and a leader of Van Dijk's stature. Liverpool need their colossus at the back, and losing him would represent a genuinely seismic transformation.
