West Ham Hand Man Utd Two Routes to Land Summerville for Less Than the Headlines Suggest

Manchester United have been presented with a pair of pathways to secure Crysencio Summerville's signature, with the West Ham winger available at a considerably lower price point than widely reported, thanks to a specific clause embedded in his contract.
The 24-year-old Dutch winger caught the eye of the Old Trafford hierarchy with his blistering pace and ability to unpick defences in one-on-one situations. Club-to-club discussions between United and the Hammers are already underway, with media outlets largely quoting a £50m figure for the right-footer's services.
Yet behind the scenes, a relegation clause inserted when Summerville joined West Ham from Leeds United in 2024 creates scope for a considerably more attractive deal. On the open market, the Hammers would demand £70m. The clause, however, opens the door to a £40m arrangement—a full £10m below the figure doing the rounds.
The catch? West Ham are insisting on two distinct scenarios. First, they will accept £40m provided it arrives as an immediate, complete payment. No instalments, no add-ons, no creative structuring. Alternatively, the Irons will entertain structured payments only if the total package exceeds £40m, allowing United to spread the outlay across multiple years at a marginally elevated cost.
United's summer priorities centre on recruiting two additional midfielders and a left winger. The latter objective may depend on successfully offloading Marcus Rashford, following the collapse of his permanent Barcelona move. The Summerville pursuit, therefore, remains secondary to midfield reinforcement for now, though the deal appears very much achievable should United choose to pull the trigger.
The winger is expected to depart following a salary reduction imposed on West Ham's squad in the wake of their Championship relegation. Convincing Summerville to make the switch should prove straightforward, particularly given United's stature and the financial realities of West Ham's current predicament. The Hammers, already having banked £85m from Mateus Fernandes' exit, remain reluctant to surrender more of their star assets, yet Summerville appears destined for the exit door regardless.
For United, the mathematics are straightforward: a genuine talent available at a bargain rate, if they're willing to meet West Ham's payment terms.
